Peter Fields
Originally from New Zealand, Peter Fields has been diving since the early 1960's. In 1977/78 he sailed a yacht to South America and was one of the first in the world to scuba dive the famous and feared Cape Horn. He also got to dive shipwrecks such as the WW1 German cruiser, DRESDEN in 73 metres on Robinson Crusoe Island and searched for HMS WAGER, lost in Patagonia in 1740, and becoming the first person to visit the wreck-site since 1744. He moved to Australia in 1978 where he managed Moray Industries for a time before becoming Scubapro USA's distributor for Australia during the 1980s.
He was for a time a partner in Pacific Commercial Diving Supplies before selling his interest in the mid 1990s. His earlier background involved running a flourishing retail and commercial operation in NZ , Diver Services Ltd, which entity gave him commercial diving as well as instructing experience. In 1994 he co-discovered, with John Riley, the wreck of the collier, 'MYOLA' , missing since 1919 off Long Reef, NSW.
He has his own 6 metre dive boat; dives on a regular weekly basis; is passionate about shipwrecks; has authored his own account of the South America adventure in his book, "Heading For Cape Horn"; is a member of the Explorers Club of New York, and is a regular contributor to numerous diving publications.
Peter will MC, "An Evening with the Undersea Explorer's".
