OZTek Advanced Diving Conference MC Richard Taylor

Richard Taylor has over 25 years experience in Technical Diving in Australia & New Zealand, starting with the deep wrecks off Sydney in the late 90s, using Nitrox in 1992 and Trimix in 1994.  He was for many years the Regional Director for Technical Diving International (TDI) and Scuba Diving International (SDI) and holds Instructor Trainer ratings with them at multiple levels. He was a Founding Member of 'The Sydney Project' mixed gas diving team exploring sunken heritage in NSW, was Safety and Diving Officer for the joint Australian-Turkish team finding the Australian WW1 Submarine the AE2 off Gallipoli in 1997 and 1998.

In 1999 he founded the acclaimed OZTeK Australasian Diving Technologies Exhibitions & Conferences and ran OZTek99 in Sydney, OZTek2000 in Melbourne & OZTek3 in Sydney in 2002 before partnering with David Strike in the successful OZTek4 & OZTek'07 Dive Shows in Sydney in 2005 & 2007.

Richard has taught hundreds of technical divers and Instructors around the world and has held past Instructor ratings with IAND, IANTD, PADI & CMAS. An avid wreck diver he has dived wrecks across the globe and as a keen cave diver and 20+ year member of the CDAA he has dived caves around Australia. He was also part of the first mixed gas dive team to explore the Pearce Resurgence in 1997 and recover the body of Dave Weaver.

Richard has been actively involved with the Australian Recreational Dive Industry for many years, is a past president of the Dive Industry Association of Australia (DIAA), has sat on a number of Standards Australia committees and State Workplace Health & Safety liaison groups.

Returning to New Zealand in 2014, Richard maintains ties with both the Australian & New Zealand Dive Industries. He is the current Chair of the NZ Recreational Dive Industry Group, a WorkSafe New Zealand Technical Expert in Recreational & Technical Diving, sits on Standards committees and continues to teach and lecture on diving locally and internationally.

Prior to his involvement with the Dive Industry Richard had extensive background in Information Technology, Systems Development and Project Management. After 26 years in Sydney he now lives in Wellington with his patient wife and two mad cats and reckons the Mikhail Lermontov the best wreck dive in the world and The All Blacks the best sports team!
