Steve Trewavas

Steve Trewavas was spear fishing before he left primary school and began to scuba dive at the age of 15 in the temperate waters of New Zealand. He has been exploring the underwater world ever since.

At 17 he immigrated to Melbourne where he now resides. Steve now spends his days investigating serious crime in Melbourne and for the past 6 years he has been attached to the elite Victoria Police State Homicide Squad.

As the current standards director (training) for the Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA), Steve hopes to positively influence the future direction of Australian cave diving. Steve holds instructor, cave and rebreather certification with GUE. He has travelled extensively, undertaken and led cave diving expeditions in remote areas of New Zealand, Mexico, Thailand, China and Papua New Guinea. He has written numerous published articles and his collection of images of people and places have been published in a number of magazines including Australian Geographic.

"My interest in cave diving started many years ago in Mt Gambier and has never diminished. From fledgling beginnings I have set about learning and continually improving my abilities. I am most passionate about exploring and recording new cave systems. I strive to record unique images of the places I visit both above and below the water."

Steve is currently utilising a Halcyon RB80 rebreather to extend his technical cave dives.
