Trevor Jackson
Trevor Jackson is arguably Australias' most experienced dive boat captain. For 13 years he operated the famed Esperance Star out of Brisbane, researching and locating more than a dozen previously unknown shipwrecks. In May 2002 he and Dr Simon Mitchell staged the infamous "Centaur Dive", in an effort to rewrite the history books about that notorious wreck. At the time it was the deepest wreck dive ever undertaken.
In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious OzteK Diver of the Year for his contributions to wreck exploration. Trevor is the author of dozens of magazine articles and in 2007 published the much lauded book "Wreck Diving in Southern Queensland". Its' first print run sold out almost immediately. Currently Trevor is skipper of the Mike Ball liveaboard "Spoilsport" and is writing another book about wrecks in northern Queensland.
For the last three years Trevor has been experimenting with search techniques and the use of specially designed buoys to facilitate the location of divers lost on the surface. In his workshop at OZteK'09, Trevor will discuss the results of ongoing trials, including design specifications and the techniques required for a favourable outcome when presented with a missing diver scenario.
The talk will be based around several actual incidents and should not be missed by anyone who conducts dives at sea from private or commercial vessels.
